Numbers: Introduction
Prerequisite knowledge for Numbers
For this chapter it is useful to have some prior knowledge of the following concepts
- Natural numbers
- Rational numbers
- Fractions
- Number line
- Positive and negative numbers
- Ordering of numbers
as well as knowledge how to use the operations of addition, multiplication, division, subtraction, and exponentiation on the integers.
In the last part of this chapter, which deals with real numbers, many notions are mentioned that will be used later, such as infinite sums (including geometric series) and linear equations with a single unknown. Although it is not necessary to master the subjects behind these notions, some knowledge of them is recommended. If you are unfamiliar with these notions, it is useful to reread this part on real numbers later.
